The Zayed National Museum is a museum on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi that presents the history of the Emirates. Five towers rise above the building, shaped to recall the wings of a falcon.
The museum takes its name from Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who united the seven emirates in 1971. He ruled until his death in 2004 and shaped the development of the country.
The collection connects the story of the United Arab Emirates to the life of Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the nation. Visitors see objects from the desert, the sea and the mountains that show how people have lived here for thousands of years.
The building spreads across several levels with a central hall, ground-floor exhibition rooms and more galleries on the upper floors. A small hill in the middle of the complex offers orientation and an overview of the site.
The wing-shaped towers pull warm air upward and let cooler air flow downward, without the need for large air conditioning units. This technique combines traditional building methods from the region with modern ideas for sustainable construction.
