Zayed National Museum, National museum in Saadiyat Island, United Arab Emirates
The Zayed National Museum is a national museum on Saadiyat Island in the United Arab Emirates dedicated to the history and culture of the Gulf region. Five slender steel towers rise above a central podium and recall the shape of falcon wings.
Planning for the museum began in 2010 as a tribute to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who led the seven emirates to statehood. The building concept references the region's development from early settlements through pearl divers to today's society.
The name honors the founding father of the United Arab Emirates and reflects a design approach that connects regional identity with contemporary architecture. Visitors experience spaces where natural cooling and light recall traditional building principles used across the region.
The site includes six exhibition rooms connected by pathways where visitors can move at their own pace. Signage and descriptions are available in Arabic and English, helping international visitors navigate the space.
The five towers use passive climate control through their special geometry, directing cool air into the exhibition rooms without relying on mechanical systems. This technique combines modern engineering with centuries-old principles of desert architecture.
