Jimmy Boy, Family restaurant in Fort district, Mumbai, India
Jimmy Boy is a restaurant in the Vikas Building in Fort, Mumbai, serving Parsi, Malvani, and North Indian cuisine. The space is simply furnished and the menu stays close to traditional recipes from these three culinary traditions.
The restaurant was opened in 1925 by an Irani family, making it one of the oldest dining spots in Mumbai. A renovation in 1999 updated the space while the family kept the original recipes intact across three generations.
Jimmy Boy is known for serving Lagan nu Bhonu, a traditional Parsi wedding feast that most visitors rarely encounter outside of a private home. Dishes like Patra ni Macchi, a fish steamed in banana leaves, and Chicken Berry Pulao give a real sense of how Parsi cooking blends Persian and Indian flavors.
The restaurant does not take reservations, so arriving outside of peak lunch or dinner hours helps avoid a wait. Fort is a walkable area during the day and easy to reach from most parts of the city.
Parsi cooking is rarely found in restaurants because the Parsi community in India is very small and most of this food is made at home for family gatherings. Jimmy Boy is one of the few places in Mumbai where someone outside the community can actually try it.
