Glückundseligkeit, German restaurant inside a former church in Bielefeld, Germany

Glückundseligkeit is a restaurant housed in a former neo-Gothic church in Bielefeld, featuring five separate dining rooms under tall ceilings. The space blends historic architectural details with contemporary design, and extends to an outdoor beer garden for warmer months.

The building was originally constructed as the Martini Church between 1896 and 1897 by architects Karl Siebold and Friedrich Gräbner. After extensive renovation in 2002, this historic religious structure was converted into a dining establishment.

The name refers to luck and bliss, pointing to the transformation of a sacred space into a place of joy and gathering. Visitors dine under high vaults where services once took place, experiencing an unusual blend of religious architecture and modern dining culture.

The restaurant seats around 318 guests indoors with an additional 350 in the beer garden, making it suitable for different group sizes. When visiting, be aware that the tall vaulted spaces create distinctive acoustics, and different levels are connected by stairs.

The former church organ gallery was rebuilt into a steel-reinforced concrete structure that now serves as the restaurant's main bar area. This unexpected repurposing connects the location's musical past to its present function in an inventive way.
