Los Cajones de Chame, Natural canyon in Chame District, Panama

Los Cajones de Chame is a canyon featuring multiple rock pools carved by the Chame River over time, with eight natural basins in total. These pools are linked by natural stone channels that create a continuous water landscape throughout the site.

The Chame River has shaped this canyon through continuous erosion over centuries, exposing different geological layers. This natural sculpture reveals how water has worked to create the landscape and documents Panama's geological past.

Local communities gather at the pools on weekends to swim and jump, showing how this place fits into everyday life in the region. The way people use these natural basins reflects a strong connection to the landscape and its water.

Reaching the site requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle, as the roads are rough and can be challenging to navigate. Bring plenty of water and food with you, since there are no facilities available at the location.

Each of the eight pools has different depths, ranging from shallow areas for wading to deep sections that allow jumping from heights of up to 8 meters. This variety makes the place suitable for different activities and skill levels.
