Alanya Castle, Medieval fortress in Alanya, Turkey
The castle extends over a peninsular area of 10 hectares, protected by 6 kilometers of defensive walls with 83 towers and 140 bastions.
The fortress dates back to Roman times, when it was known as Coracesium, and reached its peak under Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad in 1221.
The castle complex contains architectural elements from multiple civilizations, including Roman, Byzantine, and Seljuk structures, displaying their building techniques and designs.
Visitors can access the castle grounds from April to October between 8:00 AM and 7:30 PM, and from November to March between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
The fortress includes 1,200 water cisterns built during medieval times, with some still functioning and supplying water to local residents.
