Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is a large Ferris wheel on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk in South Carolina, standing about 190 feet (58 meters) tall. It has 42 glass-enclosed gondolas, each holding up to 6 people, with climate control that keeps riders comfortable in any weather.
The SkyWheel opened in May 2011, built by Ronald Bussink Professional Rides and Chance Morgan to be taller and more modern than similar wheels at other coastal spots. It drew from designs like the Niagara SkyWheel and the Seattle Great Wheel, but was made to stand out along the South Carolina shore.
The SkyWheel has become a gathering point along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, drawing families, couples, and groups looking for a shared experience above the shore. Some visitors book it for celebrations like birthdays or gender reveals, with the wheel's lights programmed for the occasion.
The wheel sits right on the Boardwalk and is easy to reach on foot from most hotels in the downtown Myrtle Beach area. Buying tickets online in advance helps avoid long lines, especially on busy summer days.
The SkyWheel is built to withstand winds of up to 135 miles per hour (about 215 km/h), making it one of the sturdiest rides of its kind on the Atlantic coast. At night, over a million LED lights illuminate the wheel, creating a display visible from far outside the city.
