Cascade Springs Nature Preserve, Nature preserve in Southwest Atlanta, United States.
Cascade Springs Nature Preserve is a nature preserve in Southwest Atlanta with walking trails that wind through thick forest. The pathways pass streams and lead to a three-tiered waterfall and a historic springhouse building.
The grounds were a site of the Battle of Utoy Creek in 1864, where Confederate soldiers built fortifications to resist advancing Union forces. The land later became a nature resort before local efforts led to its protection as a preserve.
The name comes from the natural springs that flow through the grounds and feed the waters below. Visitors can observe how water continuously rises from the earth at these source points.
The preserve is open daily, though parking arrangements change depending on the day of the week. Dogs on leash are permitted throughout the trails.
The preserve sits on rock formations millions of years old that feed underground springs beneath the ground. Water from these springs was once commercially bottled and sold for its mineral properties.
