Palau Salort / Can Salort XVIII, Noble palace and museum in historic Ciutadella, Spain
Palau Salort is a noble palace and museum in the old town of Ciutadella, featuring a neoclassical facade divided by Ionic pilasters into three sections, with oval balconies and small windows characteristic of its architectural style. The building extends from Palau Street through an archway toward Major Street and Born Square.
The palace was originally built in 1813 as a residence for a noble family of Menorca. Over time it became a symbol of local aristocratic power and wealth, eventually being adapted to serve as a museum for the public.
The rooms on the noble floor display 19th-century murals and furnishings that show how the island's aristocracy lived and decorated their homes. Walking through these spaces gives you a sense of the refinement and style that defined their world.
The best time to visit is during morning hours when the rooms are less crowded and you can explore the details more easily. The building is centrally located in the old town and is accessible on foot, though internal stairs require some mobility.
During the annual Sant Joan festivities in June, the Renaissance arcade facing Born Square becomes the front row for the traditional horse parades and celebrations. This location turns it into a prime spot for observing one of the island's most important festivals.
