Antiga Església del Roser, Art center and former church in Ciutadella, Spain.
The Antiga Església del Roser is a former church building now functioning as an art center located in Ciutadella. The interior features a single nave with side chapels, ribbed vaults, and a central dome that receives light through a lantern structure at its crossing.
The building originates from the late 15th century when a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Rose was first constructed, followed by extensive reconstruction work in 1705. This major renovation shaped much of the appearance visitors see today.
The building takes its name from the Virgin of the Rose and once served as a gathering place for the local community to worship. Today visitors can observe how religious heritage and contemporary art coexist within the same walls.
The art center is located on Carrer del Roser 11 and provides access to rotating contemporary art exhibitions throughout the year. The open layout of the interior spaces allows visitors to move freely through the galleries at their own pace.
The facade represents one of the finest architectural works on Menorca, created by members of the Amoros family, a group of skilled builders active in the region. Their craftsmanship is evident in the careful attention to detail and quality of the stonework.
