Allerton 39th Street House, Hotel in Murray Hill, Manhattan, New York, United States.
This 17-story brick building features a Renaissance Revival design with terracotta decorations, a granite base, and a distinctive rooftop garden topped by a central tower.
Constructed between 1916 and 1918 by architect Arthur Loomis Harmon, the building originally opened as a men's club hotel before the Salvation Army converted it into a women's residence in 1954.
The structure represents the first tall building in New York City to employ Northern Italian Renaissance style terracotta on its facade, setting an architectural precedent for subsequent Manhattan developments.
The property now operates as Pod 39 Hotel, offering 367 compact rooms with modern amenities, communal spaces, and a rooftop bar, located near multiple subway stations and commercial districts.
Writer F. Scott Fitzgerald rented a room in this building during the 1920s when it served as part of the Allerton Company's chain of affordable club hotels for young professionals.
