New York County

New York County is an administrative division encompassing the entire island of Manhattan. The territory follows a regular grid pattern where streets and avenues intersect at right angles throughout.

The county was established in 1683 following the British takeover of the Dutch colony New Amsterdam. It was one of the original twelve counties created in the region.
