West Cape Howe

West Cape Howe is a coastal headland on the southwestern tip of Western Australia, featuring steep granite cliffs that rise above the Southern Ocean. The park encompasses multiple beaches, walking trails, and viewing spots spread along a rugged shoreline.

The area became a protected recreational reserve in 1977 under Albany Shire management before gaining national park status in 1985 with expanded boundaries. These designations marked growing efforts to safeguard and provide public access to this strategic coastal location.

The Minang people of the Noongar nation maintain strong ties to this coastal region as part of their traditional territories. The landscape reflects generations of connection to these waters and cliffs.

Shelley Beach is accessible by standard vehicle, while other park areas feature sandy tracks that require more caution when driving. Plan your visit during clear weather conditions, especially if you want to explore further trails or the extended route to Torbay Head.

The site serves as a launching point for hang gliders and paragliders who take off from the cliffs and soar above the water. This activity has made it a favorite destination for aerial pilots from across the region over many years.
