Crocworld, Wildlife conservation center in Scottburgh, South Africa
Crocworld is a wildlife conservation facility in Scottburgh spread across about 24 hectares of native vegetation. The center houses hundreds of Nile crocodiles along with other reptile species and mammals in separate sections.
The facility launched its breeding program in the 1980s using Nile crocodiles obtained from Botswana and regional nature authorities. This program has defined the center's mission ever since.
The center teaches visitors about South African reptiles through daily demonstrations and presentations that happen throughout the grounds. The work here focuses on helping people understand the importance of these animals in the local landscape.
The best time to visit is Tuesday through Sunday when activity sessions happen throughout the day. The park opens in the morning and stays open until late afternoon, allowing plenty of time to explore the grounds.
The park is home to Henry, a Nile crocodile now over 100 years old and the longest-living example of his species in captivity. Visitors often spend time observing this ancient animal, fascinated by his massive size and remarkable longevity.
