John Ross House, Skyscraper in Victoria Embankment, Durban, South Africa.
John Ross House is a 33-story residential tower on Victoria Embankment with apartments in the upper levels and retail shops plus offices occupying the lower floors. The building combines private living spaces with commercial areas in its base section.
The building was completed in the early 1970s and has shaped Durban's skyline since then. A major renovation in 2009 updated the entrance hall, outer walls, and mechanical systems throughout the structure.
The building bears the name of Charles Rawden Maclean, who at age 15 made a critical journey from Port Natal to Delagoa Bay for supplies.
The tower houses over 500 apartments with clear zones for different uses that are easy to navigate. Visitors can easily find the ground-level shops and access public areas throughout the building.
The Roma Revolving Restaurant sits at the top and offers diners complete 360-degree views of Durban and its harbor. The dining space rotates slowly during meals so guests can observe the entire harbor landscape.
