Pokazowa zagroda żubrów w Mucznem

The Pokazowa zagroda żubrów w Mucznem is a bison enclosure spanning about 9 hectares of natural terrain near the Czerwony stream, with observation platforms and walking paths. The facility allows visitors to watch the animals from specially designed covered viewing points.

After their extinction, bison returned to the Bieszczady in 1963, leading to the creation of this conservation facility in 2012. The project marks a later effort to restore the species to its former range in the region.

The entrance gate displays traditional wooden architecture, complemented by a shrine featuring a relief of Saint Hubert created by a local forester. This religious element reflects the deep connection between hunting, wildlife protection, and local beliefs.

You can watch the animals daily at no entrance cost, with covered observation platforms accessible even in bad weather. Bringing enough time to walk the paths thoroughly is worthwhile, especially if you want to study the animals' behavior.

The facility houses bison from Poland, France, Germany, and Switzerland to maintain genetic diversity in the Górny San population. This international breeding program shows how wildlife conservation works across borders.
