The site consists of three massive natural stone arch bridges spanning a deep karst gorge above the Yangshui River, formed through millions of years of water erosion and geological activity.
The formation dates back tens of millions of years to ancient geological processes, while the nearby Tianfu Post Station served as an important Tang Dynasty courier stop established in 619 AD.
The surrounding area is home to Tujia ethnic minority communities who maintain traditional stilt house architecture and preserve local customs including distinctive cuisine and folk storytelling traditions passed down through generations.
The park operates year-round with entrance fees and facilities including walking trails, cable cars, observation platforms, and guided tours, accessible by highway from Chongqing city approximately 140 kilometers away.
Director Zhang Yimou filmed scenes from the movie Curse of the Golden Flower at this location, showcasing the three bridges named Tianlong, Qinglong, and Heilong after mythical dragons.
