Passerelle de Mazamet, Steel footbridge in Mazamet, France.
The Passerelle de Mazamet is a steel footbridge that stretches roughly 140 meters across the Arnette Valley and spans about 70 meters above the ground. It connects the town of Mazamet in the valley below with the village of Hautpoul on the hillside above through a walkable metal structure.
The bridge was built in 2018 after the Alpine Club of Mazamet proposed the idea of better connecting the two settlements. The project took four months to complete and created a new direct route between the lower valley and the upper village.
The footbridge links present-day Mazamet with the medieval village of Hautpoul perched on the hillside above. It allows visitors to experience both settlements in a single journey and connect two very different worlds separated by centuries.
The footbridge is open daily for foot traffic and can be accessed from two sides: from Mazamet's Jamarie parking area or from Hautpoul village. Visitors should be aware that the route involves elevation change and sturdy footwear is recommended.
The structure was built from galvanized steel to withstand weather and last for decades. This was a key consideration since the bridge faces the elements year-round while spanning the valley below.
