Legislature of Tucumán, legislative body of Tucumán Province, Argentina
The Legislature of Tucumán is the unicameral provincial parliament of Tucumán, located in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán. The building rises ten stories with a glass facade, and the session chamber sits on the fourth floor with high ceilings and large windows overlooking the city.
The provincial parliament of Tucumán has existed since 1822, making it one of the oldest legislative bodies in Argentina. The current building was completed in 2012 on land where a police station once stood, replacing the previous two-chamber system with a single unified structure.
The Legislature of Tucumán is one of the few provincial parliament buildings in Argentina that regularly opens its doors to the public. Visitors can watch debates from the public gallery on session days, making the workings of local government directly visible.
The building is in the center of San Miguel de Tucumán and easy to reach on foot from most of the downtown area. If you want to attend a debate, check the legislature's website in advance to find out when the next session is scheduled.
The session chamber is equipped with a biometric electronic voting system that lets all representatives vote at the same time directly from their seats. Each vote is recorded without paper ballots and the result appears on a display in the chamber within seconds.
