Mercado de Pescado

The former fish market building spans 15,300 square meters and contains a central covered space surrounded by a two-level perimeter structure.

From 1934 to 1983, this structure operated as the Wholesale Fish Market before being transformed into the Metropolitan Design Center through a national competition in 2001.

The building now functions as Latin America's largest design center, hosting national and international exhibitions including the International Design Festival.

The building incorporates natural ventilation and solar control through its large roof design, maintaining appropriate temperatures throughout its interior spaces.

The architectural renovation preserved the existing spatial structure while introducing flexible design elements and creating an interior street as the building's social space.
