New Pueyrredón Bridge, Road bridge in Buenos Aires and Avellaneda Partido, Argentina
The New Pueyrredón Bridge is a reinforced concrete road bridge that crosses the Matanza River between Buenos Aires and Avellaneda. The structure connects President Arturo Frondizi Highway in the Barracas area with Bartolomé Mitre and Hipólito Yrigoyen avenues across the water.
Engineer Lauro Laura designed this structure, which opened on December 19, 1969. Its construction required the removal of 99 homes from the area.
The bridge structure transformed into a gathering location for social movements, particularly during the economic challenges Argentina faced in the early 2000s.
The bridge serves as a main traffic route connecting two major urban areas across the river. It experiences heavy vehicle use throughout the day for crossing between the two sides.
The construction required an investment of 500,000 US dollars and replaced an older bridge that handled 90,000 vehicles daily by 1965.
