Blue Margarita, Mexican restaurant in București, Romania
Blue Margarita is a family-run Mexican, Brazilian, and Argentinian eatery on Strada Povernei in București. Inside, the small dining room and terrace are decorated with simple South American touches, while the open kitchen turns out tacos, burritos, grilled meats, and a long list of margaritas.
The restaurant was first opened on Strada Mihai Eminescu by chef Dominik Surulo and his wife, then moved to Piața Dorobanților, where it had to close during the pandemic because it lacked a terrace. It reopened in spring 2021 on Strada Povernei, in a ground-floor space that had previously housed La Cantine de Nicolai.
The menu follows the Latin American habit of sharing several dishes at once, which is why tacos, quesadillas, and chilli con carne are often ordered together for the table. A live guitar concert on Friday and Saturday evenings adds to the relaxed, social way people eat here.
The dining room is small, so a phone call ahead helps on Friday and Saturday evenings. You can also order takeaway or ask for catering if you want the same food at home or in an office.
Most of the sauces, including the salsas, are made from scratch in the kitchen rather than bought ready-made. The drinks menu was created by Lili, the manager, using ideas from her years living in Texas.
