Vernescu House, Grand historic building on Calea Victoriei, Bucharest, Romania.
The Vernescu House is a grand historic building on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest, featuring marble floors, golden decorations, large mirrors, and stained glass compositions throughout its interior spaces. The luxurious rooms display the craftsmanship and wealth visible in their finishes.
Filip Lens built this structure in 1821 as a wedding gift for his wife Lisaveta Balotescu-Carpinisanu, before Gheorghe Vernescu acquired it in 1886. During the mid-1800s, it served as a military headquarters during regional campaigns.
The building shows French architectural elements combined with Romanian design details, as architect Ion Mincu implemented during renovation work. Visitors notice this blend in the room details and their furnishings.
The building now houses a restaurant and casino in central Bucharest offering dining and entertainment to visitors. Be aware that access hours follow the establishment's regular operating schedule.
The Russian author Lev Tolstoy was present in this building when it served as a military base in the early 1850s. This connection to a world-renowned literary figure adds historical significance to the location.
