Romanian Academy Library, Research library in central Bucharest, Romania
The Romanian Academy Library contains over 7 million books, 50,000 periodical titles, and 4.5 million microfilms across its research departments and reading rooms.
Founded in 1867, the library has gathered printed materials since 1508, documenting the evolution of publishing in the Wallachian territories of Romania.
The collection includes 13,000 old manuscripts, 71,000 modern manuscripts, 105,000 drawings, and 350,000 photographs representing Romanian intellectual heritage.
The library provides access to resources through dedicated reading rooms and maintains a digital catalog at www.biblacad.ro for remote consultation.
Within its numismatic collection of 250,000 pieces rests the Orghidan cameo, which ranks among the largest engraved gems in existence.
