Yeni Lokanta, Restaurant in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey
Yeni Lokanta is a modern Turkish restaurant on Kumbaracı Yokuşu, a sloping street in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. Its interior feels bright and simple, with large windows, light wood tones, and an open kitchen where cooks work in full view.
The restaurant opened in 2013 under chef Civan Er. It was part of a wave of new dining rooms in Beyoğlu that shifted Turkish home cooking toward a more contemporary, ingredient-focused style.
The name translates as “New Restaurant,” and the cooking reworks familiar Turkish dishes into lighter, smaller portions meant for sharing. Watching the chefs plate dishes like refined mantı gives a sense of how old recipes are adapted for a younger urban crowd.
Visitors arriving on foot can easily reach the entrance after a short walk uphill from the main avenue nearby. Seating is available both inside and on the street, and the space is step-free from the main door to most tables.
The open kitchen is placed so that diners can watch the entire journey of a dish, from the stove to the pass. The window seats looking onto the narrow street turn a simple lunch into a show of neighborhood movement.
