Spiaggia Grande, Main beach in Positano, Italy

The 300-meter long beach features dark sand and pebbles along turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with steep cliffs forming a natural amphitheater.

The beach developed from a small fishing port in the 1950s into a prominent Mediterranean destination after John Steinbeck's essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar.

Local fishermen continue their morning ritual of launching wooden boats from the beach, maintaining maritime traditions passed through generations of Positano families.

Visitors can rent sunbeds and umbrellas from several beach clubs, while a free public section remains available near the eastern part of the shore.

The beach contains a discotheque carved into the rock face, where dancers move to music while waves crash against the adjacent cliffs.
