Koroni Beach, Sandy beach in Kefalonia, Greece
Koroni Beach stretches along the coast with sandy areas mixed with small pebbles, bordered by tall cliffs topped with Mediterranean plants. The water drops off gradually, making it accessible for swimming along most of the shoreline.
This beach once served as a nesting site for sea turtles before shifts in clay composition altered the sand structure. When the ground changed, the turtles stopped returning to breed here.
The tavernas along the shore serve food prepared with local ingredients and traditional methods that reflect island life. Visitors experience authentic cooking that has remained largely unchanged over generations.
The beach can be reached by a marked trail from Skala or Mavrata villages, with parking near the entrance. Bring water and sun protection, as facilities are basic and somewhat sparse.
A small stream deposits mineral-rich clay near the shore that visitors can use directly on their skin. Many swimmers apply this natural substance during their visit as an impromptu spa treatment.
