Archaeological Museum of Argostoli

The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli is located on Rigoleto Vergoti Street and displays findings from the region spanning prehistoric to Roman times. The collection includes pottery, jewelry, mosaics, and other objects from local excavations across different ancient periods.

The original museum building was destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. Architect Patroklos Karantinos designed the new building, which was completed in 1960.

The museum displays objects from different periods of ancient life in the region, showing how people lived and what mattered to them. Visitors can see pottery used daily, jewelry worn for special occasions, and items placed in burial sites.

The museum is within walking distance of the town center and easily reached from the main streets. Visitors should check regular opening hours in advance before planning a visit.

Among the displays is a gold necklace featuring spiral designs discovered at an ancient burial site near Lakkithra. This piece demonstrates the craftsmanship and importance of jewelry in ancient society.
