Drogaratis cave

Drogarati Cave is a show cave near Sami on Kefalonia, Greece, featuring impressive underground formations. The interior displays numerous stalactites and stalagmites that developed through mineral deposits accumulating over millions of years.

The cave entrance was revealed around 300 years ago when an earthquake collapsed a section of the cave system. This natural event made the underground space accessible to people for the first time.

The main chamber hosts concerts and cultural events thanks to its natural acoustics that enhance sound quality. Visitors experience how locals and performers use this underground space as a living venue.

The interior stays consistently cool throughout the year, so bring a light jacket to stay comfortable. The pathways are well-lit and maintained, making it easy for most visitors to explore at their own pace.

The cave is home to a rare tarantula species found only here and in select areas of Crete. This small creature has adapted perfectly to the unique conditions of this underground environment.
