Centro Elioterapico Gaslini

The Centro Elioterapico Gaslini is a sandy beach area directly adjacent to the pediatric hospital in Genoa with access to the Mediterranean Sea. The facility allows young patients to spend time outdoors and in the water while remaining under medical supervision during their treatment.

The beach facility was created as part of the Giannina Gaslini Institute's therapeutic approach to incorporate natural outdoor elements into children's medical treatment. The tunnel connecting the hospital to the beach is decorated with round portholes and sea creatures, creating a playful submarine theme that engages young visitors. This marine imagery helps children view the path as part of their therapeutic experience rather than a clinical route.

Patients can reach the beach directly from the hospital through a connecting tunnel without interrupting their medical care. All beach activities are supervised by hospital staff who monitor the children's health and safety throughout their time outdoors.

The facility uses heliotherapy, an older medical method that harnesses sunlight to support patient recovery and health. This specialized approach combining natural light exposure with seaside access sets this hospital program apart from standard pediatric care centers.
