Casa del Soldato, Rationalist building in Sturla, Italy
The five-story Casa del Soldato features an elliptical glass staircase that extends through the upper section, forming a spire above the structure point.
Built between 1936 and 1938, the building served as a Casa del Fascio and was named after Nicola Bonservizi until its abandonment in 2009.
The design by architect Luigi Carlo Daneri incorporates elements similar to Le Corbusier's style, with upper floors resting on pilotis and pure rationalist forms.
The municipality of Genoa plans to transform the 990-square-meter building into a community center with public spaces across four floors and a basement.
The structure stands 11 meters below street level, with its upper public floor aligning with the street, creating an unconventional vertical arrangement.
