Praia dos Buizinhos

Praia dos Buizinhos is a sand beach nestled in a sheltered cove, framed by tall limestone cliffs on both sides. Golden sand lines the shore, with scattered rocks dotting the water's edge.

This natural cove has sheltered local fishermen since Porto Covo's fishing community took root in the 18th century. The protected setting made it valuable for boats seeking safety from rough seas.

The name comes from tiny shells that wash up on the sand, which locals gather to make traditional crafts by hand. This practice connects people to the coast in a direct, everyday way.

To reach the beach, you descend a long stairway from the western clifftop where there is a viewing platform overlooking the coast. The stairs can be steep in sections, so wear good footwear and take your time on the way down.

When the tide goes out, shallow rock pools appear along the shore filled with starfish, small crabs, and various shells. These pools reveal a hidden world of sea life that exists right at the water's edge.
