Sandy Beach, Sand beach in Douglas Island, United States.
Sandy Beach is a sand beach on Douglas Island facing Juneau, stretching along the waterfront with mountains and forests creating a natural backdrop. The area includes two covered shelters, three baseball fields, sand volleyball courts, restrooms, and parking.
The beach formed from tailings left behind by the Treadwell Mine, which closed in the early 1900s. Visible remnants of mining structures and equipment still remain on the site.
People from the area use the pavilions and shelters for local gatherings, celebrations, and outdoor performances throughout the year.
The beach is open daily from 7 AM to midnight, with parking available at the entrance for easy access. The site is well-equipped with amenities for various activities and visitors of all types.
This is the only sand beach in the entire Juneau region, making it a rare spot for swimming and relaxing in the area. From the northern section, visitors can see Mendenhall Glacier and the Chilkat Mountains across the water.
