Martin's Bay Beach, Fishing beach in St. John Parish, Barbados
Martin's Bay Beach sits on the east coast of Barbados and is defined by coral reefs that create natural swimming pools along the waterline. The shoreline stretches for a considerable distance with sections of sand, rocky areas, and shallow water suitable for swimming.
A railroad once connected settlements along this coast in the 1800s, driving economic growth across eastern Barbados. Remnants of this old line are still visible in the landscape today.
Fishing remains a daily activity here, with local boats and nets visible along the shore as fishermen maintain their trade. This working side of the beach connects visitors directly to how people in the area have earned their living for generations.
The beach is easy to reach via the main coastal road, with parking available near the Bay Tavern restaurant. Low tide offers better access to more sand and makes the rocky areas easier to explore.
The northern section features limestone shapes carved by Atlantic waves into sculptural forms along the rocks. The southern end rises into cliffs that offer sweeping views of the coastline from higher ground.
