The Central Market spans multiple floors beneath a parking lot, featuring hundreds of stalls selling fresh produce, textiles, and local handicrafts.
Originally built in 1869 as Mercado de Cerna, the structure underwent reconstruction after earthquakes in 1917 and 1976 before reopening in 1983.
The market includes 215 dedicated artisan shops displaying traditional Mayan textiles, woodwork, leather goods, and jewelry from twenty-two ethnic groups.
Located behind the Metropolitan Cathedral, the market operates Monday through Saturday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sundays until 3:00 PM.
The basement level contains numerous food stalls offering complete traditional Guatemalan meals for less than two euros.
