National Palace, Renaissance government building and cultural palace at Plaza Mayor, Guatemala City, Guatemala

The National Palace features 350 rooms spread across multiple floors, incorporating Spanish Renaissance architectural elements with detailed stone carvings and ornate decorations.

Construction of the National Palace occurred between 1939 and 1943 under President Jorge Ubico, using prison labor to complete this governmental headquarters.

The Sala de Recepción contains a Bohemian crystal chandelier decorated with brass and golden quetzales, representing Guatemalan craftsmanship and national symbolism.

The palace opens daily from 9 AM to noon and 2 PM to 5 PM, offering free 45-minute guided tours through its principal ceremonial rooms.

Located at Kilometer Zero, this building marks the starting point for measuring all road distances across the Republic of Guatemala.
