Musée du Folklore, Folk museum in Tournai, Belgium.
The Musée du Folklore is a house filled with objects from daily life in Tournai and the surrounding region. Spread across multiple exhibition rooms are tools, furniture, and personal possessions that show how people lived and worked here in the past.
The building itself dates from the 17th century and has roots as a residential house in the city. Inside is a large relief map from the time of Louis XIV showing what Tournai looked like in 1701.
The exhibits showcase traditional crafts like shoemaking, blacksmithing, and cooperage that shaped daily work in Tournai. Household items on display reveal how ordinary people lived and worked between 1800 and 1950.
When visiting, take time to explore the different rooms without rushing through them. The museum is easy to access and provides a good overview of the region's crafts history.
One of the most remarkable items is Belgium's first mobile chip shop, which is on display here. A historic hearse and equipment for making cotton stockings are among the unusual objects to discover.
