Byxbee Park

Byxbee Park spans grasslands and wetlands beside San Francisco Bay, with paved trails that wind through the natural landscape. The space features open grass areas for visitors to linger and multiple pathways of varying lengths to explore.

The land was formerly a landfill and was transformed into a public recreation area based on recommendations from John Fletcher Byxbee, Palo Alto's City Engineer. This conversion demonstrates how degraded sites can be repurposed.

Environmental art displays throughout the park communicate conservation messages and help visitors understand the local plant and animal life. Interpretive signage shows how the space functions as part of the region's ecosystem today.

The park is accessible daily with paved trails suitable for different mobility needs, and parking areas are located near the entrances. Visitors should account for weather conditions and allow adequate time to explore the area.

Methane vents are integrated into the landscape as functional reminders of the site's former landfill use. These visible features allow visitors to directly observe how the location manages ongoing environmental conditions.
