Museum of American Heritage, History museum in downtown Palo Alto, United States.
The Museum of American Heritage occupies the Williams House and displays household machines and devices from around two centuries across seven exhibition rooms. The collection includes everyday items, mechanical equipment, and early transportation objects arranged throughout the rooms of this residence.
The building dates to 1907 and became a museum when Frank Livermore established his collection there. The holdings grew steadily from around 1000 items to more than 8000, reflecting growing interest in preserving this chapter of technological history.
The collections show how people lived with new machines in their everyday homes across different decades. Walking through the rooms, you see what families actually used and valued in their daily lives over generations.
The museum opens Friday through Sunday, and admission is free, though donations help support it. The location on Homer Avenue is easy to reach on foot, and a few hours is usually enough time to see everything at a comfortable pace.
A restored 1915 Ford Model T sits in the courtyard, showing what the earliest mass-produced cars actually looked like. The surrounding gardens contain plants from that era or chosen to reflect the periods shown inside.
