Morro do Elefante, Scenic viewpoint in Campos do Jordão, Brazil
Morro do Elefante is a hilltop lookout in the mountain town of Campos do Jordão, roughly 1,800 meters above sea level. The summit opens onto views over the Vila Capivari district and the surrounding wooded ridges, with a road of tight curves leading to the top.
The hill was long known for a neglected lookout with broken benches and lampposts, used mainly by tourists who still climbed up for the view. The opening of the new cable car station in 2022 changed its fortunes and brought more attention back to the place.
At the top, the Parque dos Elefantes gives the outing a casual, family-friendly side with animal replicas and small signs sharing facts about each species. Visitors often stop at the Ponte da Memória to toss coins, which are collected on World Elephant Day in August and given to a charity.
You can reach the top by car in less than ten minutes from Vila Capivari, or by a cable car whose station opened at the end of 2022. The road is paved and well marked, but full of bends, so take it slowly on foggy days.
The hill's name is said to come from its shape, which resembles the trunk of an elephant, though the likeness is easiest to notice from certain angles in the valley. There is also a snow machine near the town sign, where you can pay a small contribution to have a photo taken with artificial snow falling.
