Es Be, Bronze statue in Ciutadella, Spain
Es Be is a bronze statue in Ciutadella, Menorca, made by local artist Maties Quetglas. It depicts a man wearing sunglasses and short pants, holding a Sant Joan festival flag, and stands in a small square near the Ses Voltes street.
Maties Quetglas made the statue in 1986 as a personal tribute to his hometown and the Sant Joan festival tradition. It was originally planned for a larger spot near the cathedral square, but was placed in a nearby small square due to concerns about traffic and the church.
The statue stands in a small square near the Ses Voltes street in the old town of Ciutadella and is easy to reach on foot. A walk through the old town streets will naturally bring you close to it.
Quetglas drew inspiration from the small Torico statue in Teruel, another Spanish city figure used as a local symbol. The original sculpture has suffered vandalism over the years, including the theft of the ram's flag it once held.
