Danube Tower
The Tour du Danube is a tower standing on the north bank of the river outside Vienna, reaching 252 meters high. It features a viewing platform at 155 meters, a rotating restaurant, and several visitor facilities with informational displays.
The tower was built in 1964 for the Vienna Garden Show and designed as both a modern landmark and a viewing point for the city. Its 1960s design has been updated with modern technology over the decades.
The name refers to the tower's location by the Danube River, which holds significance for Vienna. Today you can observe how visitors use the space to enjoy views and dine while watching the city unfold around them.
The tower is accessible by public transport with metro lines U1 and U6 serving nearby stations, and bus line 20A stopping directly at the entrance. Plan for extra travel time since the location is outside the city center.
The tower features an outdoor slide at 165 meters high, designed by artist Carsten Holler, that spirals 15 meters around the structure. This unusual feature gives visitors a distinctive experience beyond typical sightseeing.
