Donauparkhalle

The Donauparkhalle is located within the Donaupark and features modernist architecture originally designed to accommodate approximately 3,300 visitors. The building includes specialized equipment for ice sports and uses concrete pillars that affect sightlines within the venue.

The building was completed in 1964 as part of an International Garden Exhibition constructed on a former waste disposal site. Its creation marked the transformation of this area from industrial land into a cultural center for the city.

The hall hosted major ice hockey championships and figure skating competitions that drew audiences from across Europe over many decades. Today the space still reflects its role as a sporting venue of international importance for the city.

The hall is relatively easy to reach since it sits within a well-known park area. Visitors should be aware that sightlines from certain seating positions may be limited due to the building's structural design.

Elevated methane concentrations were detected in the early 1990s, leading to the installation of ventilation systems. This discovery stemmed from the site's former use and prompted important safety improvements for the facility.
