DC Towers, Skyscrapers in Donau City, Vienna, Austria
DC Towers are two glass and steel skyscrapers rising on the eastern bank of the Danube River, forming the commercial center of this district. The taller tower climbs to 250 meters (820 feet) over 60 floors, while its shorter neighbor echoes a similar silhouette on a smaller scale.
Planning began in the early 2000s when Vienna decided to transform the former industrial land along the Danube into a new business district. The first tower was completed in 2013, while the second was added several years later to complete the project.
The name Donau City Towers reflects the business district that developed along the river in recent decades. Today the buildings house offices of international companies and a hotel, while locals visit the observation platform and restaurant on the upper floors.
The towers stand north of the Reichsbrücke and can be reached from the city center by metro or on foot via Donauinsel. Visiting the public areas such as the restaurant or observation point usually requires advance booking or reservation.
The facade consists of thousands of glass panels arranged in a way that reflects light differently depending on the time of day. This arrangement creates an ever-changing appearance that is visible from different points across the city.
