The Jardin botanique Hamma is a botanical garden located in the Belouizdad district of Algiers, Algeria. It covers a large area along the Bay of Algiers and contains a wide range of trees, shrubs, and plants from different regions, arranged along wide shaded paths.
The garden was created in the mid-19th century by French colonial authorities, who set it up primarily to test crops and plants suited to the Algerian climate. After independence in 1962, it was placed under state management and opened more broadly to the public.
The garden has long been a place where Algiers residents come to walk and rest on weekends. The old tree-lined paths give it a familiar feel that locals seem to appreciate more than tourists.
