Liège Love City, Sculpture in Liège, Belgium

Liège Love City is a large outdoor sculpture in the city center of Liège, Belgium, placed at the edge of a roundabout near the Place de la République française, close to the opera house. Its shape is a hand forming a recognizable gesture, and its size makes it visible from a distance.

The sculpture was installed in 2020 as part of the Triennale Art Public, a project that places artworks across the public spaces of Liège. It was created by Michaël Dans, an artist from Verviers known for works that carry positive messages.

The sculpture shows a hand forming a sign borrowed from diver communication: three fingers pointing up and two forming a heart. Anyone walking past can read the message without a single word.

The sculpture stands outdoors and can be seen at any time without any entry requirement. It sits at the Place de la République française, which is easy to reach on foot from the train station.

The hand gesture at the heart of the work originally comes from diver sign language, where it means that everything is fine. Michaël Dans took a signal from a world without words and turned it into a message for an entire city.
