Degrés Saint-Pierre

Degrés Saint-Pierre is a public stone staircase in central Liège connecting Place Saint-Lambert to Rue Saint-Pierre while bridging several changes in elevation. The steps feature wide treads and landings designed for pedestrian foot traffic.

This staircase honors the Saint-Pierre Collegiate Church, founded in 709 and demolished after 1811. The rebuilding of the steps in modern times reflects Liège's restructuring following the destruction of its medieval city center.

The steps link two distinct neighborhoods in Liège and show how residents move daily between different levels of the city. They have become part of the routine for people traveling between the station and the city center.

The staircase offers a direct pedestrian route between the train station and the city center, saving time compared to walking around. They are accessible at street level and easy to locate.

The current steps were rebuilt in 2009 after not existing for decades. They stand at a slightly different location than the original medieval steps, yet serve the same purpose of connecting neighborhoods.
