Praděd, Mountain summit in Malá Morávka, Czech Republic.
Praděd is a 1491-meter peak in the Jeseníky Mountains and the fifth-highest summit in the Czech Republic. A 162-meter television tower with an observation deck crowns the top and provides far-reaching views across the region.
Between 1903 and 1912, a group of mountain enthusiasts built a stone observation tower on the summit. The structure was neglected over time and collapsed in 1959.
The mountain takes its name from Pradziad, a figure in local mythology regarded as a guardian spirit of the Jeseníky Mountains. This connection to folk tradition shapes how people relate to the landscape today.
The mountain is reachable on foot via marked trails and accessible from nearby villages. In winter, ski slopes of varying difficulty operate on the slopes, while the summit area is navigable thanks to established paths and signage.
The summit sits at a watershed divide where streams flow toward two different seas. Water from the northern slopes flows toward the Baltic Sea, while water from the southern slopes drains toward the Black Sea.
