Sušice, Historic municipality in Klatovy District, Czech Republic.
Sušice is a town in Klatovy District in the Bohemian Forest Foothills, stretching along the Otava River. The center is marked by a Renaissance town hall with a striking tower, surrounded by an established community with multiple settlements.
The settlement began in 1233 as a mining area for gold beside the Otava River and later developed into a trading center. This shift from resource extraction to commerce shaped its economic importance over centuries.
The town hall with its tower and the forest museum shape the center and show how the town preserves its past. Visitors can see here how local traditions remain alive in the buildings and collections.
The town is accessible by railway and consists of several smaller villages in the surrounding area. Its location by a river and in hill country makes walks and nature exploration quite pleasant.
For nearly two centuries, match production under the SOLO brand was a major economic factor for the town. The factory closed in 2008, marking the end of a long tradition of local manufacturing.
