Smogornia

Mittagsberg rises to 1,489 meters in the Karkonosze Mountains and displays gentle slopes covered with mountain pine forests. A glacial cirque depression marks the northern side of the peak, shaped by ancient ice and water.

The summit has served for centuries as a geographic boundary marker between Polish and Czech territories. Mountaineers recorded their explorations of the peak through different periods of alpine history.

The mountain holds meaning in the traditions of Polish and Czech mountaineers, with several trails named to reflect the friendship between these neighboring nations. This connection is visible in how locals and visitors from both sides value the shared landscape.

The summit itself is restricted from visitor access, but a red-marked trail runs roughly 300 meters north of the highest point. From this route, you can view the peak up close and observe the northern slopes from a good vantage point.

Two distinct basins mark the northern face: Kocioł Smogorni and Kocioł Wielkiego Stawu. These natural depressions are visible from the nearby trail and reveal the geological processes that shaped the mountain over tens of thousands of years.
